With his military attack on Ukraine, Russia's President Putin is creating new geopolitical facts. In doing so, Russia is following a central narrative: the largest territorial state on earth feels surrounded by the Western world and that its security is threatened.
The fact is that since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1989, NATO has expanded further and further to the east - to include 14 additional member states. At the center of these fault lines is Ukraine. The world order is now moving into a phase of accelerated realignment - a trend that the FERI Cognitive Finance Institute predicted early on in its study "The Great Progression" (available in German)
