It is not only in terms of numbers that the BRICS group will more than double at the turn of the year: With the accession of Saudi Arabia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Egypt and Ethiopia, the expanded alliance called "BRICS-Plus" will also form a new geopolitical and economic counterweight to the West.
Today, more than 40 percent of the world's population already lives in the BRICS countries China, India, Russia, South Africa and Brazil. By 2028, the group of eleven is expected to generate more than USD 42 trillion - almost one-third of global economic output.
The G7 countries still represent almost 45 percent of global economic output, but their economic weight will continue to shift in favor of the BRICS-plus countries in the coming years.
China in particular is driving this new geopolitical front, which also represents a significant upheaval in the global economy.
